Kids in the Kitchen, an initiative promoted by the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), began in 2006. Its goal – to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. To this end, local Junior Leagues provide various programs and educational opportunities that are targeted to the needs of their respective communities.
As a part of the Junior League of Colorado Springs’ (JLCS) effort to raise awareness regarding childhood obesity-related issues with children and families in the Colorado Springs community, Kids in the Kitchen brought fun and educational activities and opportunities to schools and community events. Our League showcased kid-friendly food preparation news segments on Fox21 News, provided support through participation at CARE Fair, Fantasy Flight, and other JLCS-related events.
